Grimm thoughts

A while back, I began reading the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm. The Grimms were a couple of German academics who collected and published old folklore. Some of the stories, such as Snow White and the seven dwarves, Cinderella and The sleeping beauty, are well known to modern audiences in large part thanks to Walt Disney. However, the original stories are notoriously grim (pun intended) and often inexplicably cruel to the point of absurdity. Surely, though, there must be some wisdom to be gained by reviewing this literature.

I think it’s safe to say that the Grimm fairy tales have passed their spoiler-alert expiration date. So, I’ll be summarizing the plots and trying my best to decipher the moral of the story. Rest assured, we’ll get to Hans Christian Andersen as well, but for now, los gehts!
